J. Cole’s Hometown Of Fayetteville, N.C. Honors Him With His Own Holiday
Posted: February 29, 2012 Filed under: Uncategorized | Tags: carolina tomorrow, friday night lights, hometown hero, radaronline, xxl mag, youth experiences Leave a commentRapper J-Cole gets will be honored with is own holiday in his hometown of Hometown hero and Fayetteville, North Carolina tomorrow March 1st.
Radaronline reports that the event is part of the “Dreamville Weekend,” which will begin on Thursday, March 1st, and will include guest speaking engagements and also a concert. This is a tremendous feature for the Roc Nation artist who left NC after high school to attend St John’s University in Queens, New York on an academic scholarship.
J-Cole success is widely attributed to his lyrical content where he often matched with youth experiences, in ‘Fayetteville’ and later transitioning into superstardom. In 2012 during his cover photoshoot with XXl mag Cole says that he long desired to “make it” for “Fayettenam,”
Ironically, Cole’s mixtape, Friday Night Lights, has a song entitled ‘Home for the Holidays’ and now, officially on Thursday, Cole will have his own well deserved, holiday at home.
Well, J-Cole has landed a record a deal with one of the top record labels ‘Roc Nation’ along with a few hit records under his belt to date. What’s great about this story is that J-Cole understood the importance of education and he never waived his academic career during his pursuit for a contract. Many young aspiring artists can truly learn from him.

Azealia Banks speaking her mind about Iggy Azalea being put on XXL’s Freshman’s list for 2012.
Who is Azealia Banks you ask?? She is a year-old harlem rapper, who herself is making lots of noise with her single “212” and newly signed deal with Universal Records. (check out single at the bottom)
Here is what was said via Twitter: “Iggy Azalea on the XXL freshman list is all wrong,” Azealia wrote on Twitter upon hearing the news. “How can you endorse a white woman who called herself a “runaway slave master”? Sorry guys. But I’m pro black girl. I’m not anti white girl, but I’m also not here for any1 outside of my culture trying to trivialize very serious aspects of it. In any capacity. *kanye shrug*.”
In response Iggy said Via Twitter:
“You can’t block my blessings! Today I’m celebrating! Get with it or kick rocks!” Iggy wrote. “Don’t bother including my @ name in any of ur salty thoughts either cause… I’m #blockinthatass today!!!! First female freshman. Ever. Period. Thanks world! I used to stick XXL on my bedroom door, now I’m on the cover. Life is great.”
The first female Freshman…What do you think?

“In the past five years that XXL has been picking Freshman classes, never once has making the list been easy,” wrote XXL. “This year included. Similar to 2011, the hype around the Freshmen Class has continued to grow by leaps and bounds, surprising even us with its popularity. For this class the buzz began earlier than ever, four months before the cover was even shot. And it seemed like everyone had a list. From subdued music fans to diehard rap junkies, from Twitter stalkers to industry heavies and featherweights, folks wanted their list to be the XXL list. We listened, asked opinions, took notes.”

Kanye West and Jay-Z Auctioning Off Maybach From “Otis” Video For Charity

Kanye and Jay are going to be auctioning off to charity the very car they demolished in the Otis video. It was announced today that the vehicle will sell at Phillips de Pury auction house in New York on March 8.
The proceeds from the sale will go to the charity Save The Children and is expected to sell for around $100,000 – less than a third of its original worth.
A press release from the auction house read:
“Jay-Z and Kanye West are towering figures in contemporary culture. They have greatly contributed to the artificial barriers between art, music, fashion, and cinema to come down. Their video for Otis became an instant classic. The Maybach they have transformed for it has the starring role.”
President and Save the Children CEO Carolyn Miles added that the money from the car’s sale will go to families in East Africa.
“The rains have arrived in some areas of East Africa, but the crisis is far from over. It will take many months for farmers and families to replenish herds and replant and harvest crops. The funds raised from auctioning off the Otis car are greatly needed to help sustain families over the next several months. We are grateful to Jay-Z and Kanye West for offering up pop culture history to do good for children in Africa.”
